“A manifesto for the cities of the future, today”: a conversation between architect Kengo Kuma and botanist Stefano Mancuso

Live from Resilient Communities, the Italian Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at Venice Biennale, Europa Risorse and PineBridge Benson Elliot presented “A manifesto for the cities of the future, today”: a conversation between architect Kengo Kuma and botanist and professor at the University of Florence, Stefano Mancuso. There were also contributions from Antonio Napoleone, President of Europa Risorse, and Yuki Ikeguchi, architect partner at Kengo Kuma & Associates and designer of WELCOME.

The focus of the conversation was the relationship between architecture and nature, people and the environment, and how biophilia can improve both living and working conditions.
A speech by Stefano Mancuso proved to be incredibly valuable and innovative, providing an insight into his contribution to WELCOME: a biomachine dubbed the ‘Air Factory’, which purifies indoor air and makes nature an active protagonist for change.

WELCOME EXPERIENCE – Incontro con i cittadini
19-20-21 November 2021
An event specifically for citizens to discover WELCOME up close and personal, opening its square up for people to use and experience as early as 2021

Three days of events in which a series of insightful talks and an exhibition in the open construction site of the former Rizzoli area allowed citizens to get up close and personal with WELCOME.

An opportunity for people to meet, discuss and establish a dialogue with Antonio Napoleone, President of Europa Risorse; Giancarlo Tancredi, Councillor for Urban Regeneration; Caterina Maria Antola, President of Municipality 3 of Milan; Maria Antonella Bruzzese, Politecnico di Milano; and Massimo Vitale of Vitali S.p.A.

The construction site was transformed into an exhibition space which brought together the value of the past with the near future: one series of panels discussed the evolution of the site, with its historical and cultural importance for Milan, whilst the other offered a glimpse into the experience of WELCOME’s new green square, wholeheartedly involving the citizens as the true stakeholders and protagonists of the transformation.

WELCOME EXPERIENCE also provided an opportunity to present ‘The People’s Voice’, a vox pop video conveying local residents’ needs, opinions and hopes for the development.
